The Alberta Economy and the Givergy effect…

Stating the obvious for those of us who live in Alberta would be to say that the Alberta economy is immensely affected with the low oil and gas prices.

Click here to read more but, the recent layoffs in these particular industries are not ring fenced and as such the impact has trickled down to every other facet of Alberta - building & constructions and retail sales to name a few. As far as we have seen in the past financial year, this downturn in the economy is affecting some our Givergy clients in this region especially when it comes to gaining event sponsorship, guest event attendance and also event donations for silent auctions – both the number or items and value of these items.

Despite this, the issue our charities have been tasked with is that their Boards still expect the same amount of revenue, or more(!), to be raised.

In situations like this the typical response is to stop spending money in order to remain within ever tightening budgets yet, we have actually seen quite the opposite. The benefits of using the Givergy system have been proven with such effectiveness that, despite the cost of the system being a stretch to budgets, the number of events we are supporting in this region is ever increasing.

To assist charities through these tough economic times we have kept our pricing the same for the past 2 years, despite the system developments and improvements we have made, and we envisage maintaining this stability in pricing for the foreseeable future. After all…we are here to help charities raise more!

It is therefore pleasing for us to report than despite the economic issues being faced, our clients seem to be raising the same, or more, as in previous years despite having fewer guests in attendance at their events and with less auction items at lower values. In addition, charities are still finding sponsors for the Givergy system and as such these sponsors are seeing a return on the investment. So, it’s not that bad after all.
